Our People
The Tree Company was founded in 2000 by Tom Aldous, and it’s the people he’s built around him that have made us what we are today. That includes co-director Carl, who joined the business in 2013 and became a director in 2018 — a highly respected arborist whose depth of experience across local government and the private sector has been invaluable in shaping the company we are now.
Our team includes qualified arborists, experienced tree climbers, arboricultural consultants, planting and maintenance crews, mechanics, and administration and support staff — all sharing a genuine commitment to safe, high-quality work and great outcomes for our clients and Melbourne’s urban environment.
A particular point of pride is our specialist planting and maintenance division — a dedicated team of around 15 staff with their own fleet of planting, watering and maintenance trucks and trailers, focused exclusively on tree establishment and long-term canopy care programs throughout Melbourne.
We invest heavily in our people through ongoing training, a strong safety culture and a collaborative team environment. We think that shows in the quality of our work — and in the long-term relationships we build with councils, government agencies, commercial clients, schools and residential customers across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Tom Aldous
Tom completed his Advanced Diploma in Horticulture/Arboriculture through the University of Melbourne before spending 4–5 years working alongside respected arborists in both Melbourne and London.
In 2000, Tom founded The Tree Company which, over the past 26 years, has grown from small beginnings into a well-established business servicing a stable client base including 12 local councils, Defence (Ventia), Parks Victoria, schools, commercial and many residential clients.
Carl Dalla Riva
Carl (left) joined the business in 2013 as Operations Manager and Senior Consulting Arborist.
Carl became co-director in 2018 and is a highly respected qualified arborist with extensive experience across both local government and private sectors. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge to the organisation, particularly in the administration and management of key clients and council contracts.
