The Tree Company was founded in 2000 by Tom Aldous and has grown into one of Melbourne’s most respected arboricultural service providers.
Our team consists of approximately 80 passionate staff including qualified arborists, climbers, consultants, planting and maintenance crews, mechanics, administration staff and support personnel, all committed to delivering professional arboricultural services across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Operating from depots in Surrey Hills, Preston and Flemington — along with a dedicated tree planting and maintenance depot in Preston — we service local councils, government agencies, commercial clients, schools and residential customers. Our dedicated planting and maintenance division includes approximately 15 specialised staff and a fleet of 8 planting, watering and maintenance trucks and trailers focused on tree establishment and ongoing maintenance programs throughout Melbourne.

Tom Aldous
Tom completed his Advanced Diploma in Horticulture/Arboriculture through the University of Melbourne before spending 4–5 years working alongside respected arborists in both Melbourne and London.
In 2000, Tom founded The Tree Company which, over the past 26 years, has grown from small beginnings into a well-established business servicing a stable client base including 12 local councils, Defence (Ventia), Parks Victoria, schools, commercial and many residential clients.
Carl Dalla Riva
Carl (left) joined the business in 2013 as Operations Manager and Senior Consulting Arborist.
Carl became co-director in 2018 and is a highly respected qualified arborist with extensive experience across both local government and private sectors. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge to the organisation, particularly in the administration and management of key clients and council contracts.
