Sustainability
The protection and enhancement of our urban forest is central to The Tree Company’s mission. We work with eight local councils, as well as a range of public and private clients, to plant, irrigate, and maintain trees across metropolitan Melbourne.
To support this work, we’ve established a dedicated division—The Tree Company Planting and Maintenance Pty Ltd (TTCPM). Our planting team includes eight skilled staff and a fleet of five trucks, undertaking large-scale tree planting, watering, formative pruning, and establishment care. Holes are prepared using augers and small excavators for efficiency and consistency, and all planting data is uploaded to council inventory systems to ensure long-term tracking and integration into urban forest strategies.
Beyond planting, we specialise in the management and preservation of mature trees. Our arborists are experienced in advanced tree care techniques such as cable and rod bracing, dynamic bracing, the fabrication and installation of support props, weight reduction pruning, whole tree suppression, and habitat pruning for wildlife.
Sustainability also guides our approach to resource use. By-products from tree work are repurposed where possible—felled trees and branches are milled for construction timber or passed on to local makers for use in furniture or musical instruments.
With the help of ‘Carbonneutral’, The Tree Company is aiming to become an independently endorsed carbon neutral business. Our emissions are currently being assessed and forecasted. Watch this space!
Our Commitment to the Environment
As part of its commitment to the environment and local community, The Tree Company supports three environmental charities and two local not-for-profit organisations.

Habitat Creation and Nest Boxes
Habitat hollows and nest boxes attract and retain native wildlife in our urban areas, with around 300 species in Australia depending on cavities for their home, shelter or seasonal nesting. Australian animals that use habitat hollows include owls, lorikeets, lizards, bats, bees and possums. Artificial hollows have a variety of applications and can be targeted at a specific species by taking into account the animal’s habitat requirements, including height above ground level, orientation, hollow dimensions and entrance hole size and more.
We are excited to partner with Thermal Haven Nest Boxes, offering supply and installation of these eco-friendly, durable nesting boxes.
Designed to withstand the elements, they have an estimated lifespan of around 50 years outdoors.
