Nest Box Installation for Manningham City Council
Manningham City Council, committed to preserving and enhancing local biodiversity, partnered with The Tree Company to supply and install 54 Thermal Haven Nest Boxes across 11 reserves.
Completed over four days by two qualified arborists, this project addressed the shortage of natural tree hollows for native wildlife, providing habitat to support species such as birds, possums, and microbats.
The initiative demonstrates effective collaboration between local government and environmental specialists, promoting ecosystem resilience in an urbanising landscape.
Rationale for nest box installation
Habitat for Fauna that Depend on Hollows
Nest boxes offer essential shelter for wildlife species that depend on hollows for breeding and protection.
Mitigating Habitat Loss
Installing nest boxes helps counteract the effects of habitat loss caused by human activity.
Enhancing Biodiversity
Strategic placement of nest boxes contributes to increasing local biodiversity by supporting native species.
Overview of The Tree Company’s role
Project Planning and Supply
The Tree Company was responsible for advising on target species, supplying and installing Thermal Haven Nest Boxes for Manningham City Council’s largest next box project.
Installation Expertise
Expert installation of nest boxes ensured proper integration into natural habitats for wildlife support.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
The Tree Company collaborated closely with council and local stakeholders to achieve project success.
Ecological surveys and consultation
Manningham City Council’s Biodiversity Officers and Ecologists identified the installation locations through on-ground ecological surveys. Pre-installation data was collected and systematically recorded in Tree Plotter, ensuring accurate mapping and long-term monitoring capability.
The Tree Company Arborists then enhanced the dataset by recording target species, nest box height and orientation, photographic images, and a unique nest box identification number for each installation site. This detailed information provides greater ecological value, supporting accurate tracking, ongoing monitoring, and long-term biodiversity reporting.
